STATE OF MINE /// Teaser
STATE OF MINE explores America’s outdated mining practices through the lens of the proposed Stibnite Mine in Idaho, serving as a vivid case study of the destructive 1872 Mining Law. Originally designed to promote westward expansion and resource development, this archaic policy enables companies to exploit public lands with minimal regard for environmental safeguards or local communities.
Through personal stories of impact, the documentary reveals the ecological devastation resulting from these outdated regulations, including toxic runoff, habitat destruction, and long-term water contamination. Featuring insights from experts, environmental advocates, and Indigenous voices, the film highlights the urgent need to modernize the 1872 law and the growing movement for mining reform.
Ultimately, it argues that without significant reform, America’s treasured Public Lands will continue to bear the burden of a 150-year-old law that is increasingly out of step with contemporary values and environmental needs.
